Changes to the Transition Process for New Reception Starters

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to inform you of a few changes to our transition days and parents meeting, following the updated guidance from the Government. As lockdown restrictions have not eased as we had previously planned for, we will be making the following changes:

Parents Meeting – Wednesday 23rd June 4.30pm

The parents meeting will be outside, and we will meet in a group of less than 30. To ensure this is possible, please arrange childcare for your children wherever possible. Please wear face masks unless you are exempt, and we will provide hand sanitizer for your use. All information will be posted on our school website prior to the meeting, including a video tour of the classroom. If you would rather watch this and not attend the meeting then please do so - this may be more appropriate for parents who already know the school well.

Starter packs containing forms to be completed will be handed out at the parents meeting, or posted out afterwards if you choose not to attend.

Transition Sessions

We will be completing a Covid19 risk assessment to ensure that the transition sessions are as safe as possible. To ensure we reduce the risk of any transmission, all transition sessions will be held outside.

All adults, including school staff, will be asked to wear face masks when on the school site and working with our incoming children. Children will be asked to sanitise their hands upon entering and leaving the school site. All equipment will be cleaned prior to and after the visit, and will not be used by current school pupils in advance of the sessions.

We had hoped that parents could join us for the first transition session. This is no longer possible and we ask that parents leave their child as soon as they are settled.  I will also ask that, however tempting, parents do not watch from the over the wall at the school playground. This will not help your child settle and may cause confusion. If any parent feels that they do not want their child to be involved in the transition process, then please contact school.

The dates for these sessions are as follows:

Friday 25th June 2021 1pm-2pm

Wednesday 30th June 2021 9.30am- 11am

Wednesday 7th July 1.30pm – 3pm

If on the day of the session, your child or a member of your household shows any of the following symptoms of Covid19, please do not attend the parents meeting or transition sessions:

  • a high temperature (please note this has not been a defined temperature for many months – if someone is feeling hot and a temperature check puts it above normal, then it needs to be treated as a symptom);
  • a new, continuous cough;
  • there is a change or loss to your sense of smell or taste.

If  anyone in your household displays any of the three main symptoms of Covid-19, the whole household must immediately self-isolate, apart from to get a test for the person displaying the symptoms which can be booked via Until that test result is returned as negative, all members of the household must continue to self-isolate, even if they are using lateral-flow tests at home.

I apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. We had hoped to be able to welcome you in a more personal manner and show you around school but we must put the health and safety of our school community first.

We look forward to meeting those of you that would like to attend at the parents meeting on Wednesday 23rd June at 4.30pm. If you have any questions or concerns about your child starting school or the transition process then please do not hesitate to contact me or the school on 01629 733727.

With best wishes

Alexia Wyer
