Tim Peake Project

Astro-Science Challenge graduation.

What an amazing 6 weeks of work we have had in the Aztecs and the Normans classes. We have loved learning about the International Space Station, the life of an astronaut, Space and Tim Peake, our fantastic British astronaut.

During the challenge the children have thrown themselves into tasks in Science, Maths, English, Computing and Design Technology to earn the digital badges (at the bottom of the page).

On Tuesday 15th December we had our graduation ceremony, to celebrate with our families the outstanding effort and achievement of our children. Thank you to all of the family members who joined us.

We awarded the children with their graduation certificates and shared some of their wonderful work. We were also joined by Yvonne Wright, our Derbyshire Space Ambassador. She came to watch the launch with us and to say how impressed she has been with our work, after having a guest log in to our makewaves page. In a message on our National STEM centre group this week, she posted the following comment:

‘I had an amazing day yesterday, thank you to Rowsley for my invitation to watch the launch and congratulations on your completion of the Astro-challenge, you have done some amazing work.’

Also, today we have had several emails from UNSA (the Unlimited Space Agency). One of them was from Jon Spooner (the Man in the Space Shed videos) saying:

‘Just wanted to drop by and say a personal thank you for the truly outstanding work you have done with your Cadets for the Astro Science Challenge - obviously I don’t have favourites (!) but I have particularly enjoyed (and been impressed by) following the outstanding leadership and work submitted from all of you at the Astroaztecs team. Please pass on to all your Cadets our MASSIVE congratulations for their work. If you can confirm how many of you there are in your class (Aztecs), we’d like to send ALL of you a limited edition, metal UNSA pin badge.’

This evening we had an email that went out to all of the schools taking part - 6000 children -  about the Astro-Science challenge and showing pictures of the graduation ceremonies saying:

‘Dear Team Leaders,

For many of you who have completed The Astro Science Challenge and have Cadets who have become Agents of Unlimited Space Agency, this is the end of the Missions for now. We'd like to say a huge thank you for taking part and for all your hard work.’

At the bottom of this national email was – A PICTURE OF THE ASTRONORMANS AT GRADUATION!! (see at the bottom).

What a brilliant term and well done again to all of the children. You have worked so hard and should be very proud of yourselves.

Mrs Anderson, Mr Mayes and Mr Wilson.
