Our new topic is called:

For the final half term we will be learning about British Wildlife - this will include animals and plants, their habitats and caring for our environment.

See the  'Green Zone'  sub page for a weekly outdoor activity.

There is also a separate P.E page too - there are lots of home-learning and warm up activities on here for you to choose from.

There are two other topic sessions alongside the one green zone and PE sessions,  these can be done in any order from Mon to Thurs. Mrs Hodgson will plan another topic session on a Friday.

Spelling and handwriting are on a Friday.

Being Wild Things at home too!

Collective Worship

As a church school, we feel that it is important to continue with our Christian Collective worships.

Click on the link below to find Christian videos from Micheal Tinker, who comes into school for Collective worship. Your child is used to watching him with the naughty Mr Grumpy, but he has many different characters that your child will recognise.

He is a professional Christian Children's musician and is uploading a new video each day.

EYFS - Reception

Phonics

(see separate subpage below) This should be done every day for 15 minutes a day.

Reading

Please read 5 times a week for 10 minutes. A great selection of books can be found on https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ - please check your parenthub message for log in details.

English

A daily English task can be found in the EYFS  Writing sub page below - this may be a reading, writing or speaking and listening task.

Maths

A daily maths activity will be posted in the separate Number and Shape subpage

Early Years Curriculum - Topic tasks (3 a week)

There will be  three tasks a week relating to the EYFS curriculum for your child to complete in their home learning books.

Green Zone

One activity per week to get your child outdoors and doing some creative outdoor tasks.

Physical Development

One session per week to get your child active and their hearts racing or their muscles stretching.

If you do any additional baking, gardening, painting drawing, making, etc photos and examples of work can be put in this book too. It is important that your child has an even balance of work and play/practical activities.

You should aim to spend at least 30 minutes each on the English, Maths and Topic tasks every day. Plus 10 minutes reading and 15 minutes on phonics

Year 1

Spelling

10 minutes of phonics/spelling every day except on Friday when there will be a longer session - cold spelling test and handwriting practice plus one spelling activity. Weekly spellings will be posted with a suggestion of daily activities. Y1s are working on joining their letters in preparation for Year 2 an exemplar will be included. Spelling has it's own sub-page, see the rainbow below.

Reading

10 minutes daily - please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ for a great range of books - see your parenthub message for log in details.

English

Monday - Thursday

There will be a range of  English activities throughout the week usually based around our topic. These will be posted on the sub page marked English below (blue book). There will be a grammar and punctuation activity, vocabulary work, written tasks and (new to this half term) a reading comprehension.

Work completed on these days should be sent to Mrs Hewitt

Friday

Today will always be spelling practice. Please test your child at the start of the session - without practising the sound or showing the words, this is what we call a cold test, then complete the words in their handwriting book plus one other spelling activity. The weekly spellings are in the phonics rainbow.

Work completed on Friday should be sent to Mrs Hodgson.

All work must be done in pencil and in their  English or handwriting book. We work really hard on presentation so please encourage your child to write on the lines, and where possible join their letters.

Year 1 Maths

Monday to Thursday

You can print out the sheets to put in your child's maths book or they can write it out in their maths book.

Please encourage correct number formations - we were working on reversals before lockdown - don't worry if your child reverses some numbers; this is quite normal. Maths should also show well presented work - with 1 digit/symbol per square, the only time this is not necessary is when writing words - these can be written normally.

Outdoor/Active maths does not always need recording.

Work on these days should be sent to Mrs Hewitt c.hewitt@peaktorfederation.co.uk

Friday

On Fridays, children do maths work relating to space, shape and measures.  If you have any issues with the work below or want to let me know how your child got on, please email me at s.hodgson@peaktorfederation.co.uk

Please see the sub-page (purple calculator) for planned activities

P.E (baseball bat) Green Zone (pine leaf sub-page) and Topic Work (planet sub-page) can be found towards the end of the class page

The aim is to get your child outside and active as much as possible this half term. So I have created 2 new sub pages - P.E and Green Zone.

Your child should complete one P.E session AND one Green Zone session per week, PLUS 3 from the topic section. Mrs Hodgson will plan an R.E/PSHE topic lesson every Friday.

Your child should spend approximately 3 hours working per day and your day should include lots of breaks and exercise to keep them motivated - a constant source of snackage would probably help too!

Year 2

Spelling

The children should be doing 10 minutes of spelling every day except on Friday when there will be a longer session - cold spelling test and handwriting practice plus PPT spelling activity. Weekly spellings will be posted with a suggestion of daily activities.

Reading

10 minutes daily - please go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ for a great range of books - see your parenthub message for log in details.

English

Our expectations are that work is completed in pencil not pen and all work is neatly presented. I have spoken to the children about this and we encourage them to take pride in their work. In Year 2, the children are expected to use capital letters at the start of sentences and correctly punctuate their work. All of them can do this but a gentle reminder before they sit down to the task would not go amiss. They are expected to join their writing and correctly form their letters.

Monday - Thursday

There will be a range of  English activities throughout the week usually based around our topic. These will be posted on the sub page marked English below (blue book). There will be a grammar and punctuation activity, vocabulary work, written tasks and (new to this half term) a reading comprehension.

Friday:

Spelling focus. See the Y2 Spelling Rainbow. Read the spellings of the week out to your child for them to spell without seeing the word - this is called a cold test and the idea is that they progress through the week, you can retest them the following Friday. Once they have done the cold test, complete the PPT on the spelling pattern and practice their words in their handwriting book.

Work completed on Friday should be sent to Mrs Hodgson.

Rosie found where the little gardener lives! Just look at  his marigolds!

Year 2 Maths

Monday to Thursday

There will be a daily starter activity (usually a Flashback 4 ) which the children are used to completing.

You can print out any sheets to put in your child's maths book or they can write the calculations out in their maths book.

They must copy any calculations out i.e. if it says 8 + __ = 12, they need to write the whole calculation with the missing number. Work needs to be completed in their maths book using a pencil and one digit per square. Any lines drawn must be done with a ruler.

Outdoor/Active maths does not always need recording.

Work on these days should be sent to Mrs Hewitt c.hewitt@peaktorfederation.co.uk

Scarlett, Jack and Blake have been fortunate enough to have their Great Nan Wendy tell them all about what happened through her eyes as a child all those years ago. So many brave souls then and now! #warheroes/NHSfrontline. A special day.
