Curriculum Intent

"Life in all its fullness" John 10:10

Our aim is to provide a child centered curriculum that is broad, ambitious, inclusive and inspiring for ALL learners. We ensure that our children feel safe, secure and empowered to be risk takers whilst respecting others. We encourage our children to use the Christian values, knowledge and skills learnt to make their own path and decisions, becoming courageous advocates and honorable British citizens. We want to inspire a lifelong love of learning along with a sense of responsibility to become well rounded adults that contribute positively to society thereby fulfilling our vision of "Life in all its fullness".

Our creative curriculum makes meaningful links across subjects and inspires a lifelong love of learning. We will encourage children to be actively involved in their learning, co-operating with each other and asking questions to clarify thinking and deepen understanding.

The school is dedicated to developing the holistic child and, with this in mind, opportunities to grow within and beyond academic subjects is of great importance. We promote positive mental health and well-being and provide opportunities to enhance our children’s life skills, social skills and cultural awareness.

We provide a enriching curriculum by:

  • to promote a growth mindset towards learning, so that all children enjoy coming to school and embrace new challenges and possibilities; pushing their own boundaries
  • creating a culture of belonging in our school environment so that pupils feel safe and secure.
  • to enable children to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills; being ‘determined to succeed’ and becoming independent thinkers and questioners; acquiring a solid basis for lifelong learning
  • encouraging curiosity and a passion to learn
  • providing a curriculum with a high level of cultural capital, through well-chosen texts, visits and experiences for pupils across all subjects. In addition, there are many opportunities for children to apply their learning in real life contexts and make links with the community around them as well as the wider world.
  • our curriculum promotes learning knowledge, makes links between subjects, and develops subject specific skills. Key knowledge and skills have been identified and sequenced to ensure these build and develop as pupils’ move through the school; ensuring learning becomes embedded. These progressive objectives are used to inform planning and sequences of lessons across all subjects.
  • reading. phonics and speech and language development is given high status and planned to ensure our children have high standards and aspirations.
  • to promote Values-based Education so children take responsibility for themselves and their actions, are respectful and develop resilience
  • to fulfil all the requirements of the National Curriculum and the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education.
