Happy Holidays!

As we break up for the summer holidays, just a few reflections on a very busy term!

The summer term is always jam-packed with exciting activities, as well as rounding off the curriculum for the year.  The PTFA have been very active in school this term, with Water Olympics, the well-dressing, and a Summer Fair.  This wonderful group of people, led by Claire Harrison, have raised thousands of pounds through grants and fundraising in the last few years, and every penny goes towards every child - we thank them very much!

During the Summer Fair we also unveiled a memorial bench to Mrs Ellen Cox, a much-loved Teaching Assistant who worked at the school for 35 years but passed away last year.  The bench and it's arbour are the perfect place for children to read, chat with their friends, and work individually with staff, all the things that Mrs Cox loved to do.  We hope that it is used by generations of pupils to come.

We have been in action on Sports Day, and at tournaments in boccia, cricket and rounders with other local schools.  The juniors also shone in their summer production of the 'Wizard of Oz', with some wonderful acting and singing over two performances in the Village Hall.

Our fantastic FREE breakfast club received national attention, with a visit first from John Whitby, MP for the Derbyshire Dales, and later from Minister Stephen Morgan, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Schools.  Both were very impressed by our breakfast provision and the school as a whole.

Developing our community links, we have hosted PCSO Anthony Boswell for three talks on a range of subjects, including road safety, behaviour in the community, and how the police can help us.  Bringing the police car onto the playground was a particular highlight!

Finally, it wouldn't be the end of the year without the opportunity to say hello to some new faces, and bid farewell to our leavers.  Our new Reception cohort joined us for several transition days, on which they all thrived, and we are looking forward to getting to know them even better in September.  Our Year 6s, who achieved phenomenal SATs results well above the national average, celebrated the end of their primary schooling in style, with a pizza and water-fight, followed by a leavers service and tea party today.  It was wonderful that so many of our families joined us, some for the last time after being part of the Rowsley community for many years.  We will miss you all very much but know that you will be awesome in your new schools.

We would like to wish all of our children and their families a safe, happy and fun summer holiday, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 8th September.
